The Mercersburg Area Community Chorus's 2011 Fall Concert includes a new performance of the choral piece
No Coward Soul is Mine, with lyrics by Emily Brontë:
2011 Fall Concert Schedule
Saturday, December 3, 3:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, December 4, 3:00 p.m.
At its largest size ever with 150 members,
the chorus will be joined by a full orchestra under the direction of
Richard Rotz, with three soloists this year: soprano Elisabeth Turchi (a
Shippensburg resident), tenor Colin Eaton and bass Alex Helsabeck. The
musicians will perform selections from Handel's "Messiah," as well as
carols and anthems, including a work composed just for the chorus by
Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, "No Coward Soul is Mine."
"It's a
beautiful piece that seems to move the singer as well as the audience,"
Rotz said, adding that it was first performed by the chorus last
spring. The lyrics are a poem by Emily Brontë (Iris Hersh on The Public Opinion)
The piece
was premiered last April in Mercersburg, PA.
