The play Brontë, at the hands of Shared Experience, keeps on getting
more and more reviews. They travelled to the Brontë fatherland and took part in the
2005 Dublin Theatre Festival. The website of the Festival
has a few beautiful pictures of the play.
We keep on learning things about this play, such as the costumes were inspired by those shown on
Paula Rego's paintings (incidentally these paintings were used for the
Royal Mail's commemorative stamps for Charlotte's 150th death anniversary).
Also that:
The mode is compelling: As they don drab, demure 19th-century garb, the actors playing sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne discuss the limited lives the Brontës lived. On a sketchy stage (complete with "Brontë Kitchen" and "Drawing Room" stenciled on the floor), they individually start to write. Charlotte discovers Emily's passionate poetry. No woman has written this way before, they believe, and they may be right.
So, once again, if all this makes you want to go and see it, check out
this old post for the upcoming dates in England. Will they consider a world tour after that? We hope so!
