FREE TO BE WHATEVER SHE MIGHT IMAGINE...

Brontё is a play that transcends time and space to explore the lives, both real and imagined, of the Brontё sisters. What inspired them to follow their passion in a world where their talent and ambition was so firmly discouraged? A play that questions what it means to succeed. That challenges us to see the power of the imagination and encourages us to escape into the world of Charlotte, Emily & Anne; three of the most read authors in the English language.
Southern Courier introduces the play like this:
The famous Brontë sisters have written the most passionate, sensual works of English literature based on lust, love and family. So what inspired them? What lives must they have led to be famous authors of literature? Polly Teale’s play, Brontë, explores Charlotte, Anne and Emily Brontë and transcends our time, leaving the audience hot under the collar. “It also explores the lives of pioneering women who remain role models for us and other women to this day,” producer Joan Sanders says. (...)
The latest adaptation of the Polly Teale play Brontë is no period drama. There’s not a bonnet in sight.
Instead, the play re-imagines the lives of the three sibling authors - Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte - to examine what it means to succeed.
It questions what inspired them to follow their passion in a world where their talent and ambition were so firmly discouraged.
The project had its genesis when Illyria Productions, which formed in 2009, was approached by four young Actors Centre Australia graduates to produce the play. (Leesa Smith)
