**THE CONTEST IS CLOSED**
Michael Dirda recently wrote the Ten Commandments of Book Giving for
The Washington Post, the second one being:
2. A classic is always welcome, especially in a pretty edition.
To which Marjorie Kehe, from
The Christian Science Monitor, added:
I’d be only too happy if, with the gift of what Dirda calls “a pretty edition” someone gave me the excuse to reconnect with Charles Dickens or Charlotte Bronte in coming new year.
Well, at BrontëBlog we have taken that very seriously this Christmas. We know most of our readers are permanently connected to the Brontës, but as Michael Dirda says, a pretty edition is always welcome.
And thus,
thanks to White's Books, we are giving away
two copies of
their pretty (beautiful, really) edition of Jane Eyre.
But not just that. For those interested in diversifying the span of their Brontëiteness and
thanks to the London Children's Ballet, we are giving away
one copy of a
region 2* DVD of their Jane Eyre.
As usual, entering our Christmas contest is very, very easy. You only need to
Send us your favourite, more Christmas-like quote from any Brontë work or letter. It doesn't need to include the word 'Christmas'. We would rather the quotation conveys the feeling of what Christmas time feels like for you, or what Christmas time should be all about in your opinion.
We will accept ONE QUOTE ONLY per participant. Participants, if they so wish, are welcome to state their prize preference (or indeed their impossibility of playing the DVD at home), although, if they win, they might be asked, if possible, to switch. Quotations must be sent to our e-mail: bronteblog (AT) gmail (DOT) com (read that aloud if that doesn't sound like an e-mail address to you) before December 24, 12am CET. The winners will be announced on December 25, and their quotes will be the weekly quotes of the following weeks.
Good luck everyone!
* Region 2 DVDs only play in Western and Central Europe; Western Asia; Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Swaziland; United Kingdom, French overseas territories and multi-region DVD players.
