Several newspapers report the big news: Natalie Portman is to play Cathy in the upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

From The Hollywood Reporter:
Natalie Portman is attached to star as romantic fiction icon Catherine Earnshaw in a new silver-screen adaptation of Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights," being produced by Ecosse Films.
Ecosse's Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae will produce from a script by Olivia Hetreed ("Girl With a Pearl Earring"). HanWay Films will handle worldwide sales for the project, which is being directed by John Maybury. [...]
Still, Ecosse and HanWay believe they have an iconic jewel in Portman.
"Natalie is without a doubt one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation," HanWay's Tim Haslam said. "Combined with visionary director John Maybury, this promises to be a fresh, exciting version of a classic love story."
Ecosse's Robert Bernstein praised the actress' ability to bring "intensity and depth" to roles.
No start date has been set.
Ecosse and HanWay worked together on "Becoming Jane" and the forthcoming "Brideshead Revisited," to be released July 25 by Miramax in the U.S. [...]

The Guardian adds:
The film's UK producers Ecosse Films, who made Becoming Jane and the upcoming Brideshead Revisited, are currently searching for their Heathcliff to appear opposite Portman.
The Daily Mail discusses the possible candidates to play Heathcliff:
I understand that discu[ssion] involved four possible names.
Colin Farrell, who is excellent in the tantalising black comedy In Bruges; Sam Riley, the young up-and-coming actor who broke through with a sublime portrayal of singer Ian Curtis in the film Control; and Dominic Cooper, a fast-rising young actor who's filming An Education and appears with Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia! are all in the frame.
Another interesting possibility is Michael Fassbender, who was in 3000 and who portrays Bobby Sands in Hunger, a film that follows the last weeks of republican hunger striker. I'm hearing good things about Hunger, a possibility for the Cannes Film Festival next month. (Baz Bamigboye)
It's great to see things are moving forward, isn't it?

  1. Erm... that's good, i never really considered Natalie for the role of Cathy but i think she's a decent choice. I'm fairly pleased. She reminds me of Merle Oberon actually....

  3. Is this definitly confirmed. I mean has she actually signed on the dotted line?? The article says she's only attached. I'm happy with this by the way.

  4. We wishe we had some ort of inside information but I'm afraid what we reported is what we know. I suppose we will have to wait and see and, in your case, keep your fingers crossed so that it is so :)

  5. Thanks. I was just asking because i was looking at some of the reports, some say she's fully signed on and some say she's attached. The ones that are reporting she's fully signed on seem to be later than the intial reprts so... i'm inclined to believe this is for definite. We shall see.
