Remember this appeal? The Spenborough Guardian publishes a reminder and a picture of the Shirley poster. Who knows, perhaps the producers behind the Shirley movie project, with screenplay by Jo Baker may be interested.
The film in question is a fictitious adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's Shirley – which was largely set in the Spen Valley – and a promotional poster has been specially created for it.
And while the 'film' isn't actually a real one, anyone wanting to sponsor the poster can have their names added onto the poster as a special credit.
The poster will be the third to be installed on the Savoy Square in Cleckheaton – a former cinema site – and has been painted by local artist Chris Bullock.
The first two show the Mr Men doing Saturday Night Fever and the wartime epic Codename Panther, celebrating the Phelon and Moore motorcycles which were once made in the town.
The latest blockbuster is a tribute to the Bronte sisters and in particular Charlotte who used many of the Spen Valley's locations, events and people in her books.
The civic society is now appealing for a sponsor to come forward for this third poster which Chris has made into a Taylor/Briarmains production of Charlotte's Shirley – with reference to the Taylor family who lived at Red House in Gomersal.
All the poster needs now is a person or company to sponsor it before it can be 'premiered', and whoever comes forward can have their name placed in the credits.
Sponsorship costs £295 + VAT. Anyone interested should call 01274 870072. For full details about the project go to www.svcs.org.uk. (Margaret Heward)
