The Spen Valley Civic Society is looking for a sponsor interested in supporting a Shirley poster:
On October 20th 2007 Spen Valley Civic Society have their latest project underway thanks to Gomersal company Cube Design & Display. The park in Cleckheaton town centre known locally as Savoy Square is starting to be adorned by 'film poster' artwork. A spokesperson for the society explained, "This area of the town used to be derelict land until we were given permission to landscape it back in 2003. When the council later renovated the indoor market we asked them to design their external wall facing onto the park in an Art Deco fashion. The Savoy cinema used to be on this site and we wanted to keep that connection alive for the park."
Now traditional style 'film posters' are being created and each one highlights an aspect of Spen Valley's local history. The first one celebrates Roger Hargreaves, the Cleckheaton born creator of Mr Men and is in the style of Saturday Night Fever.
The second one is about the Panther motorbikes and
The Spenborough Guardian publishes information on it and on the next one devoted to Shirley Country:
Chris [Bullock] volunteered his services for the project which is co-ordinated by Spen Valley Civic Society.
And not only has he completed the Panther poster, he has also done the next one which is a tribute to the Bronte sisters. [...]
The Civic Society is now appealing for a sponsor to come forward for the third poster which Chris has made into a Taylor/Briarmains production of Charlotte Bronte's Shirley – with reference to the Taylor family who lived in Gomersal.
"Just about everything Charlotte wrote about has a connection with the Spen Valley," said Chris.
Donal O'Driscoll, who is managing the project on behalf of the society, said: "The next 'film poster' - Shirley Country – is ready to go up but needs a sponsor. It only costs £295 + VAT. The sponsor's name appears in the 'credits' so is a great way to advertise a company name."
Anyone interested in being a sponsor should call 01274 870072 or email filmposters@svcs.org.uk. Full details at http://www.svcs.org.uk/. (Margaret Heward)
We have found a more precise description in a
previous article :
"And Chris Bullock, who has already done the Panther poster, is doing a romantic film poster based on Shirley, using Red House as the backdrop.
Any sponsors reading this... you know your duty.
