According to My London what truly makes the 3-hour journey to Haworth worth it is... The Hawthorn restaurant.
A beautiful village which was recently named as having one of the best restaurants in England is 'worth every minute' of the three-hour drive from London. But it is not just the food that draws visitors to Haworth, West Yorkshire, all year round but the town's relation to three very famous writers.
London is one of the best cities in the world when it comes to food and eating out, so it can feel a challenge to find restaurants that compete in rural towns and villages across Britain. But in this year's Diners' Choice Awards Yorkshire saw ten restaurants make their way onto the list. One of these spots can be found in the picturesque village of Haworth.
Haworth is a beautiful spot in Brontë Country, with a historic cobbled Main Street and rolling moors. Its Main Street is home to The Hawthorn, a restaurants noted as one of The Best For Food in this year's Diners' Choice Awards. Serving a seasonal menu, accompanied by wine, ales and spirits, this beautiful restaurant promise a delicious evening to visitors who dine in a restored period building on Main Street. (Lexi Iles)
Both Radio France and Taxi Drivers (Italy) feature Emily. And more about movies as Midland Express (Australia) reports that an online auction will be taking place to raise funds for the filming of Magpie.
The team from Magpie has just launched an online auction as a fundraiser to support the continuing shoot for Magpie, a feature film to be shot at Railway Farm, Trentham.
Billed as Wuthering Heights meets The RingMagpie is a supernatural/thriller romance following the story of a man mourning the death of his wife, who turns to online dating for comfort with terrifying consequences that will either destroy him – or set him free.
Written by Darren Markey and directed by Kate Whitbread, shooting of Magpie has already begun in Melbourne and central Victoria with more planned late 2023.
Early Bird Books recommends Jane Eyre as one of the '20 Best Classic Books To Read'.
Jane Eyre
By Charlotte Brontë
This novel kicks off the list because it is intriguing to this day. First, Brontë published it under a pseudonym. Then, she tackled real issues of the day not normally discussed in polite company including the revolutionary idea that a woman might have her own dreams and desires outside of her social duties.
Not to mention, Jane Eyre was rather groundbreaking for its time with the inner thoughts of a female narrator told from her own point of view. But don’t get intimidated—at its heart this is a romance in a brooding, gothic tale. (Nicole Klett and Tallie Williams)
A columnist from Country Life has found a subtle way of saying he's not a fan of Jane Austen.
I’d been shooting in the Lincolnshire Wolds at a beautiful place where Alfred Lord Tennyson grew up. In case you’re thinking of inviting me, I don’t only shoot at places associated with literary brilliance — I recently accepted an invitation to a partridge day at Steventon in Hampshire where Jane Austen spent the first 25 years of her life and I feel much the same way about Austen as Charlotte Brontë did. But that day in Lincolnshire by the stream that inspired Tennyson to write The Brook was perfect. The spaniels worked their little hearts out and we shot a dozen pheasants and a few woodcock.
