Today, February 12 in Brussels, an alert from the Brussels Brontë Group:
14:00 Talk and Discussion on The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë
Room P61, Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis, Bld. du Jardin Botanique/Kruidtuinlaan 43, 1000 Brussels
Access map: www.fusl.ac.be/fr/233.html
This is a chance for everyone to learn more about the book and talk about it.
This novel, about a woman coping with with marriage to a man who is alcoholic and an adulterer, was found shocking when it was first published and is still disturbing and relevant. Anne Brontë’s realism is totally different to the romantic writing of her sisters Charlotte and Emily.
Maureen Peeck O'Toole, who lectured in English literature at Utrecht University for many years, will give the talk, covering the main aspects of the novel, and we will then lead a discussion session.
It is intended to be an informal event with maximum audience participation.
