A nice, long trailer for Jane Eyre 2011 is now online. Enjoy it!

It does look pretty good to us. Quite Gothic too.

A good deal of websites comment on the trailer, many of which also remark on the Gothic feel of it: Movieline, JoBlo, Aceshowbiz, Obsessed with Film, The Marshalltown Chronicle, Empire, Speakeasy, First Showing, Flavorwire, New York Magazine, Cinema Blend, Rope of Silicon, We Are Movie Geeks, Indie Wire, The Film Stage, MTV, Coming Soon, Movies Online, 411Mania, Get the Big Picture, FilmShaft, ScreenRant, RantRave, Shock Till You Drop, Den of Geek!, BSCreview, Hollywood Hills, Hollywood.com, The Hollywood News, Indie Movies, Inside Pulse, Film School Rejects, Technorati, Metro, The Squeee...

EDIT: Focus Features Film has also created a Jane Eyre website. The only new thing revealed is the name of the actress playing Adèle: Romy Settbon Moore.

  1. Really, no comments? I for one don't see what all the fuss is about how "gothic" this version looks. It looks extremely similar to the 2006 version, the trailer is just cut to make it seem suspenseful. This reminds me of the "scary mary" trailer on youtube, where some cut clips from Mary Poppins to make it look like a horror movie, and it really worked! When I think gothic Jane Eyre I think of the Orson Welles version, and this doesn't seem to even come close to that one's gothicism. Having said that, it's only a teaser trailer, and I love Mia as an actress and I'm excited to see her in this.

  2. OK, I'll bite. Jane looks good, but Rochester seems a bit too young and fresh. The role needs someone on the order of Ciaran Hinds. He's my gold standard for Rochester. *swoon*

  3. Trailer shows a longer treatment of the child Jane, which is welcome, and then Mia Wasikowska bursts onto the screen, already inspiring my confidence that she can incarnate Jane as a young woman. Mia (who dazzled as a slightly older Alice) brings so much talent and presence to this role! I will go to see her, and perhaps this new Rochester will win me over too. Each new Rochester has to woo the viewer, while he is winning Jane's heart.

  4. I think this Rochester will bring exactly what the big screen has been waiting for from the character. He seems so very intense! I am positively excited for this film!!

  5. For me the problem is Mia Wasikowska. She doesn't look like Jane to me.

  6. I've seen several films with Michael Fassbender (Hunger, Centurion, etc) and to me he seems to be the perfect choice to play Rochester. At least he is the closest to the way I imagined Rochester when I read the book as a child for the first time and dozens of times since. It is my favorite book of all time and I have an inexplicable compulsion to reread it at least twice a year. I've seen several film adaptations of Jane Eyre and I am SO looking forward to this one, I have hardly any words to express it. I sincerely hope that the movie is as good as the trailer suggests it to be and that my high expectations will not be met with disappointment.

  7. Mia looks like the perfect "Jane" to me; she's slim, she looks young and she isn't Hollywood "pretty". The trailer certainly builds up the suspense, even for those of us know the book well. Fassbender doesn't look old enough to play Rochester, though judging by the acting in the trailer, he certainly has the intensity. He looks too thin for this very wealthy man who spent ten years "partying" in Europe. This isn't a "by-the-book" telling of the story, which may increase the suspense and give it a fresh telling. Glad to see the producers are showing Rochester's reaction when he discovers she's gone. If the film is as good as the trailer, we Jane Eyre-Heads are in for a treat.
