Some news/rumours about the Brontë movie projects around:

Variety
published recently that the film has a new appointed director, after John Maybury left the production: Peter Webber, director of Girl with a Pearl Earring and also appointed director for the adaptation of John Bowles's The Spider's House (to be shot in early 2009):
Prods. Robert Bernstein, Douglas Rae; dir. Peter Webber

Emily Bronte's stormy 19th-century romance set on the Yorkshire moors is the story of doomed passion between untamed orphan Heathcliff (Michael Fassbender) and gentleman's daughter Cathy (Abbie Cornish). Starts in spring. (Adam Dawtrey)
HanWay Films publishes the right-hand promotional poster and only confirms the director's name. It describes the film as follows:
No force of nature can match the destructive power of love. An orphan from the slums, the handsome, brooding Heathcliff finds true love with Cathy, the beautiful daughter of Yorkshire gentry. Cathy and Heathcliff are soul mates, the wild English moors provides the dramatic backdrop for their young passion. But after Cathy is forced to choose another man to marry, Heathcliff's devastating force is unleashed. An astonishing vision of perverted passion and passionate perversity.
Transmission Films, the Australia and New Zealand distributor gives only the name of Abbie Cornish as attached to the film.

Note: We are indebted to silcock-2 on the imdb boards who posted some of this information before.

2. The imdb webpage of the eternally delayed Brontë biopic no longer includes the name of Charles Sturridge as director. A new victim of the Brontë biopic curse?

3. And finally, the news about Ruby Films & BBC Films's Jane Eyre project written by Moira Buffini is that... there is no news. And is no news good news when the supposed shooting had to begin last autumn?

  1. You might also take note on the IMDb message board for Bronte (the film) that there have been more changes made. Besides Mr Sturridge, more of the cast have been removed, as well as all of the crew, and Andrew Dunn's name is back on for Cinematographer.

    Changes afoot..?
