The Bridlington Free Press publishes interesting new information about the cast of the forthcoming Wuthering Heights TV series, produced by Mammoth Screen. We have a name and a face for the young Heathcliff (who as an adult is played by Tom Hardy): (Picture source)
A YOUNG Bridlington actor is set to become a star of the small screen after landing a role in a new ITV drama.
Declan Wheeldon, 14, of Shaftesbury Road, will appear as a young Heathcliffe in the production of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, set to be shown on ITV1 early next year.
The former Burlington School pupil rubbed shoulders with some famous faces during his stint on set, including Kevin McNally, of Pirates Of The Caribbean fame, and Tom Hardy, who starred as Handsome Bob in the recent Guy Ritchie film RocknRolla.
Another familar figure during filming in Derby and the Peak District was former Coronation Street actress Sarah Lancashire, who heaped praise on Declan's performance.
In an picture album detailing his time on set, she wrote: "You've been fantastic and an absolute star!"
"Much love and luck on your future career, may it be wonderful."
The youngster has already performed for Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and danced at Kensington Palace in the past, and his mum Lisa said the whole family were thrilled with his achievements.
She said she was extremely pleased he had overcome problems with bullying when he first started performing.
"It's just great and we are all very proud of him," she said.
"It was difficult for him when he first started dancing because he was bullied for it, but he just got his head down and got on with it and it has paid off with what he has done.
"It was really hard for him because he's had to leave all his friends behind too. I just can't wait to see him on television in January."
Declan is currently studying at the famous Sylvia Young Theatre School and lives with a family in Camden, north London, during the week. (...)
Wuthering Heights is based around the relationship between the characters Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw and the vendetta he launches against her family. The drama is due to be shown in January.
EDIT:
January? The later news we had said April 2009. Incidentally a WGBH press release gives the following dates for the US airing:
In winter 2009, MASTERPIECE CLASSIC returns with a feast of new adaptations:

January 18 and 25

Wuthering Heights (2.5-hour mini-series) at 9pm ET on PBS
A thrilling new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s haunting classic, which chronicles the
passionate spiritual bond between Heathcliff, an abandoned Gypsy boy adopted by
the Earnshaw family of Wuthering Heights, and the family’s daughter, Cathy. Published in 1847, the novel was condemned by one critic as “abominably pagan”
for the dark passion throbbing in the heart of its irredeemable hero-villain. Tom Hardy (The Virgin Queen) is Heathcliff, newcomer Charlotte Riley is Cathy, and Burn Gorman (Bleak House) is Cathy’s brother Hindley.

  1. Aww, he's sweet looking. Not a Heathcliff trait. Lol. What's interesting is that he's 14, i wonder if they'll keep the children longer than normal adaptations, maybe they'll meet the Lintons at the right age?? January? IMDB says April. I hope iit's January though.

  2. Oh, I don't think he's too bad. Hopefully for once they will keep the correct ages, etc. but perhaps that's too much to ask for. The IMDb has said April for a while now. And to think it was initially scheduled for this very month (November)!
