The Telegraph asks
Joan Bakewell to pick her five desert-island books. Her last choice gives her away as a Brontëite.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë: "It remains the most brilliantly, sensationally well-constructed thing. Of course, it was the absurd over-the-top passion that appealed to me when I first read it, though."
We believe that happens to everyone who reads it :)
Another desert-island books - for BrontëBlog anyway - is Jane Eyre, which is reviewed in Italian by
apro il mio cuore. Incidentally,
Gewoon Mirelle posts a brief, informative comment in Dutch on Jane Eyre 2006, which is currently being
broadcast in the Netherlands.
Fuzzy Logic posts a few pictures of West Yorkshire, which include a couple taken in Haworth.
And finally
The Villager reviews The Mystery of Irma Vep, which is
on stage at Urban Stages through July 15. The review reminds us - as usual - of its Wuthering Heights influence.
If you're curious about it, this play is also on stage in Tampa, Florida, as we
reported yesterday.
