A new review of Jenny Uglow's biography of Thomas Bewick 'Nature's Engraver' appears in The New York Sun. And Jane Eyre's praise of History of British Birds is quoted:
But his triumph came in the 1790s with his two-volume "History of British Birds." A masterpiece of illustration and explanation, it's an early example of a popular nature guide, which tutored generations in the avian life of the British Isles. "With Bewick on my knee, I was then happy," enthused the young Jane Eyre. (Matthew Price)
The Chicago Sun-Times announces the new season of the Dance Center of Columbia College:
Chicago's the Dance COLEctive (Feb. 21-23, 2008), in a piece about the Bronte sisters.
We suppose that the piece will be Written on the Body.

Sometimes Jane Eyre references came in the most unexpected ways. Like a graduation speech:
Valedictorian Michele Owens said the class had grown from tentative freshman to confident adults in the past four years, ready to take their places in the world. She said her high school years remind her of the classic novel, “Jane Eyre.”

“She starts off as this shy, timid girl who doesn't have much confidence in herself. As the story progresses, we watch her grow through her many experiences,” Owens said. “We see how all the different people who touched her life played a role in her becoming an adult who is comfortable with herself. It is the same with us.” (Jason Harris in Burlington County Times)

We have also a possible Brontë guest at tonight's American Film Institute celebration:
Each year, AFI presents another episode in its widely acclaimed series of CBS television specials -- AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies, which launched AFI's on-going celebration of the cinema centennial. Each special honors a different aspect of excellence in American film. Last year we celebrated AFI's 100 Years...100 Cheers, America's Most Inspiring Movies.

The American Film Institute (AFI) tonight announced the 100 greatest American movies of all time, as selected by a blue-ribbon panel of leaders from across the film community. AFI will broadcast its 10th Annual CBS Special in the AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies series on June 20, 2007.
Wuthering Heights 1939 is on the 400 ballot list. Precisely, this week Indenation reviews the movie here. Another review, this time of Jane Eyre 2006, can be found on School Library Journal.

  1. I believe Wuthering heights made the original 100 list back in 1998 but this year it got knocked out. Also My Fair Lady was knocked out along with Doctor Zhivago and Fantasia. One movie that made this list was Do the Right Thing. I saw that movie and it was horrible.
