We wanted to know something more about what was going on behind the involvement or not of Hugh Dancy in Brontë, the film. We contacted Angela Workman and we have very sad news to report:
Hugh was in fact eager to play the role of George Smith, so I can't explain his comment, but it might have something to do with the lack of firm financing for the film.

I'm sorry to say, I'm no longer directing the film (...) I can't say anything else on the record, other than the producers are still trying to raise financing.
We would like to thank Angela Workman for answering our questions in such a difficult time. She has been fighting for this project so much time that we feel deeply sorry for her.

  1. Oh dear, this (and the related news below) does not sound very auspicious - I had such hopes for this movie...

  2. We all did. I'm only hoping that it won't now be a film à la Becoming Jane or similar to the fictional one mentioned in The Brontë Project by Jennifer Vandever.
