The Bronte Sisters to collaborate with Destiny's Child - (To the tune of Bootylicious): "Anne, can you handle this, Emily, can you handle this, Charlotte, can you handle this, I don't think you can handle this". Brontelicious, it would certainly be. (Richard Godwin)Hmmm... perhaps it would make a nice, catchy theme tune for the Brontë sitcom ;)
Potter's attitude toward her family and marriage reminds me of Charlotte Brontë's. Both women wanted to be good daughters, but they had the independence of mind to seek happiness outside the patriarchal home when it was offered to them. Potter was fortunate in that her only two suitors were sensitive to her genius, and in that other men, too, did their best to promote her talent within the strictures of Victorian society.Lee Welles in the Star Gazette quotes Charlotte Brontë on a matter she sadly knew much about.
Charlotte Bronte said, "A ruffled mind makes a sleepless pillow." How true that is. The sleepless night is often a result of a stressful day. How ironic. Being stressed prevents you from getting to one of the biggest stress reducers. And more serious even Associated Content has an article on the complexities of Jane Eyre. Perhaps a little too hurried, but quite unexpected nonetheless.
A love/hate relationship develops between this character and the reader, as it's sometimes hard to understand her motives. However, this is essentially what keeps the reader engaged throughout this novel. (bloomooks)Love/hate relationship? How could you hate Jane Eyre?
