The Radical Brontës Festival in Bradford has today several alerts:

Yesterday was the launching. And today you can talk with them at the South Square Centre (Bradford):
Wuthering Heights > A Graphic Novel - Artist’s Presentation
Sunday 17 September > 1 – 3pm
Graphic artist Siku and writer Adam Strickson talk about their collaboration on the making of this graphic novel. Copies of this work will be on sale at the event.
And, at the same time, in the National Museum of Photography, Film & TV a series of talks and discussions will be going on:
Talks & Discussions with some of the UK’s brightest writers.

1pm > 3pm: The artistic versus touristic Brontës

The Brontës have been commodified, their radical work and their brutal, short lives turned into a chocolate box confection that supports a thriving tourist industry. The question is how did this happen and what can we do about it?
This discussion will focus on what the Brontës mean to the writers involved and question the distance between the industry that has been built up around and the reality of their lives and works.

3pm > 5pm: Has anything changed for women writers since the Brontës?

A debate on women writers. A panel of women writers to discuss their experiences and thoughts on what it's like to work as writer today and contrast this with the Brontës experience.

Featuring writers Michèle Roberts, Lesley Glaister, Martyn Bedford, Sophie Hannah and Tobias Hill, and hosted by local poet James Nash, it promises to be lively debate.
