Maggie Fox from Lip Service (on tour with Withering Looks) poses as Charlotte Brontë for a very funny interview that still has us in stitches.

What are your top three albums? My sister Emily’s got a very attractive stamp album, and I have the collected works of Charles Dickens in a nice leatherette volume and a couple of Trollopes.

What was the first record you bought? Stormy Weather.

...And the last? Well Emily’s fond of Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, aren’t you dear?

What song is running around your head at the moment? Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, by Sacha Distel

Do you read a newspaper? If so, what? The Haworth Herald, Emily likes the horoscopes.

Do you read a magazine? If so, what? Yorkshire Life – the weather section.

Which website do you visit most often? http://www.lip-service.net/ – there’s a brilliant comedy show about the Bronte sisters called Withering Looks and it’s on tour – find out where!

Who do you listen to on the radio? Radio 4’s Classic series.

Who or what makes you laugh and why? Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding aka LipService, see above.

Was Little Britain funny? My sister’s a lot like Vicky Pollard. As for the only gay in the village...

Do you have a favourite art work? We’re rather fond of Branwell’s portrait of us three sisters. He painted himself out of the picture, which has left a bit of a smudge, but is definitely an improvement.

What was the last film you saw? Stormbreaker – I thought it was going to be a film about the weather in Yorkshire...

What’s the last book you read? I reread my bestseller – Jane Eyre – it is awfully good.

Do you have a favourite play? I don’t get out much but “No Sex Please we’re from Yorkshire” raised a smile or two.

What do you love/what annoys you most about modern culture? I love double glazing – if we’d had double glazing in 1840 we wouldn’t be dead now.

Is there an artist you regret never meeting? What would you say to them if you had the chance now? The Duke of Wellington, he had such gorgeous boots, mmm.

What word do you most like the sound of? Can we have two as there are two of us? Blasted! Stump!

  2. I ahve read this interview quite a few times and it makes me laugh out loud every time. As you say, I love the running joke about the weather, but what always, always cracks me up is:

...And the last? Well Emily’s fond of Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, aren’t you
    dear?

    Simply great.
