An alert from the Australian Brontë Association (ABA):

Saturday SEPTEMBER 2nd
at 10:30am

Robyn Williams: The Horror, the Horror

Exploring the Gothic elements in Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. In contrast to the mid-nineteenth century novels of social realism, Charlotte and Emily Brontë mix the Gothic and the Romantic with an originality that is haunting, disturbing and elusive.

Meetings are held on level 1 of the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts, 280 Pitt St Sydney (just around the corner from Town Hall station), with a meeting charge of $4.

That Conrad reference (the horror, the horror!) has made this half of BrontëBlog to think... does anybody knows if Joseph Conrad read the Brontës? And if he did... what was his opinion?
