Have you ever imagined how the Andrew Sisters would have performed Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights? Probably not, but now that the question is in your mind you will not be able to sleep without listening to the cover that
The Puppini Sisters have made and included on their brand new album:
Betcha Bottom Dollar. We tried to resist publishing this information until we could provide our readers with a place where they could listen to this cover. Well, we have two. One of them is just
available for a short time on the Copy, Right? blog. The other one is a live one just performed for the
BBC-Radio 4 in a recent interview where the origins of this cover are also explained.
If you're not convinced with this swinging approach, you can turn to a more radical one. How about Wuthering Heights on Ukuleles? Yes, you have read correctly. As the
Galway Independent reminds us,
The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (yes, it exists) has among its repertory an irresistible cover of Kate Bush's song. You can listen to a sample
here.
EDIT (24 July 2009): More Ukuleles, at the
Wimbledon GuardianOther favourites of mine included Wheatus’s Teenage Dirtbag, Isaac Hayes’s Shaft – which, due to George Hinchliffe’s adapted lyrics, works better in the north London venue Cecil Sharp House, where I am lucky enough to have seen them, and Leaning On A Lamppost from the musical Me And My Girl, although the highlight was undoubtedly Hinchliffe’s rockabilly rendition of Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights. I quite like The Puppini Sisters cover; but no one can seem to put as much power and passion into the chorus like the way our Kate can.
ReplyDeleteThe Ukelele one was...
Oh this reminds me, on BBC2s The Culture Show a few months back they finsihed the programme with a cover of Wuthering Heights. It seemed like a decent attempt until...you guessed it...the 'It's me Cathy...' part.
Kate Bush must be thrilled about tyhe many royalties this song must be bringing her - there are ao many versions of it! Although the ukelele one is certainly one of a kind :P
