Well, today Blogger seems intent on not letting us publish, but we are perseverant and, if you are reading this, we won.

But we couldn't let this slip. We have stumbled across a new retelling of Jane Eyre! Just like Jenna Starborn, this one is set in the future but keeps the essence of the book intact. Jane_E, Friendless Orphan: A Memoir by Erin McCole-Cupp will be released on July 3, and this is what the blurb says:

Born not in a past of corsets, bonnets and arranged marriages
but in a future of cloning, bioterror, and fleeting relationships...
could Jane Eyre survive?
In truth, Jane_E is not born at all but is an "unclaimed embryo," the living mistake of a reproductive rights center--or so her cruel foster family tells her. After ten-year-old Jane is sold into slavery as a data mule, she must fight for freedom and identity in a world mired between bioscientific progress and the religions that fear it.
Jane grows up and escapes to take a job as a homeschooler, but what can she do when she finds herself falling in love with the first man ever to treat her with kindness--her new employer? Can a rich man of social regard ever love someone without even a name of her own? Can Jane's love for him survive the deepest of betrayals?
This Jane's story reexamines and celebrates the continued relevance of a literary classic, demonstrating that self-respect and genuine love are worth a fight, regardless of where--or when--we live.

Interesting, eh? It looks really good! And there's plenty to do while you wait for it to be released. You can order it online already and get all this:

- Your personalized, autographed copy of Jane_E, Friendless Orphan: A Memoir
- Commemorative Jane_E bookmark
- A donation made on your behalf to the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth, West Yorkshire, England
- Free shipping within the continental United States of America

You can read an excerpt. You can read about the characters (with more excerpts), as you can guess they're the same as in Jane Eyre but with different names. We already love Jordan Devine as the reincarnation of St John Rivers.

You can also keep track of what the author Erin McCole-Cupp is up to by reading one of her blogs: blogspot, livejournal and myspace. You might find it interesting that she used to write fan fiction, so there's an encouragement to all those fanfic writers out there to try and take a big leap!

Ah, thank goodness Brontëland is no quiet place :D
