A lot of events are going to take place this weekend in the Brontë Parsonage Museum. Some of them have been anticipated on the Brontë Parsonage Blog Magazine. We reproduce here the AGM Weekend 2006 programme.

Friday June 2

2.30 pm: Justine Picardie at the Parsonage. Ms Picardie has written a new introduction to Daphne Du Maurier's book, The Infernal World of Branwell Brontë.

6.45 pm: A PERFORMANCE OF DOUGLAS VERRALL'S PLAY, CHARLOTTE, EMILY AND ANNE BY THE LIVE LITERATURE GROUP, STARRING ANNA CALDER-MARSHALL, to be preceded by supper. After the performance, Anna Calder-Marshall will be in conversation with Andrew McCarthy (Brontë Parsonage Museum) and Coreen Turner (Chair of Membership), talking about her role as Cathy in the 1970 film version of Wuthering Heights. Saturday, June 3

11.00 am: Annual lecture: by Dudley E C Green, former Chair of the Bronte' Society and editor of The Letters of the Reverend Patrick Bronte.The title of the lecture is "Always...................... at my post" - Reverend Patrick Bronte. West LaneBaptist Centre, Haworth.

2.00 pm: Annual Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death ofRev. A B Nicholls. The preacher will be Dr Robert Logan, Chairman of the Irish Bronte Society. Parish Church of StMichael and All Angels, Haworth.

4.30 pm: Annual General Meeting of the Bronte Society. Venue: West Lane Baptist Centre, Haworth. CURRENT MEMBERSHIP CARDS ARE REQUIRED FOR ENTRY TO THE AGM.

7.15 pm: WUTHERING HEIGHTS - THE 1970 FILM STARRING ANNA CALDER MARSHALL, TIMOTHY DALTON AND IAN OGILVY will be shown after wine and nibbles. The evening will conclude with a short panel discussion on the film. Venue: West Lane Baptist Centre, Haworth.

Sunday, June 4

10.00 am: Members' private viewing of the Matt Lamb exhibition in the Haworth Parish Church Schoolroom.

1.30 pm: A walk to the Bronte Falls (walking boots strongly recommended) led by Hedley Hickling (Membership Officer, Bronte Parsonage Museum).
OR
1.30 pm: A walk in the Oxenhope area: Revd. Sutcliffe Sowden and Revd. William Grimshaw connections (strong shoes or boots recommended) led by Margaret Berry and Val Thompson (Bronte Society Council Members).


8.00 pm: The Lighcliffe and Clifton Brass Band will play a selection of music inspired by the Brontes, Haworth and the Yorkshire Moors. Venue: West Lane Baptist Centre, Haworth.

Monday, June 5
9.30 am: A whole day coach excursion to the Manchester area. Members will visit Plymouth Grove, the home of Elizabeth Gaskell (talk and slide show, a salad lunch and a performance of Elizabeth Gaskell and Charlotte Brontë). A brief stop will be made to view the plaque commemorating the writing of the first words of Jane Eyre on Charlotte's visit to Manchester in 1846 .The excursion will conclude with a visit to Gawthorpe Hall, Padiham, Lancashire.

Tuesday, June 6
9.30 am: A short-day coach excursion, travelling to the delightful village of Kirk Smeaton, set in the picturesque valley of the River Went. The Saxon church of St Peter's (formerly known as St Mary's) is where, in 1853, Arthur Bell Nicholls retreated after his proposal of marriage was rejected by Charlotte Bronte. The church is steeped in history and the Reverend A Judd will be on hand, over coffee, to answer any questions we may have about the church. Weather permitting there will be time to take a stroll along the riverside.
After lunchtime refreshments at The Shoulder of Mutton Inn (adjacent to St Peter's), we shall visit Whitechapel Church, Cleckheaton, where Rose Ann Heslip, niece of Patrick Bronte, is buried (see
Gazette, Issue 38, September 2005) Departure: West Lane Baptist Centre, Haworth. The anticipated arrival back in Haworth is 4.00 pm.
