Tomorrow, May 12, is also the opening night of another Wuthering Heights adaptation. This time is a text version and is in South Africa (and this it is not the first time that South Africa is present on this blog).

The Fish Hoek Dramatic Society presents at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg (Cape Town, South Africa) Wuthering Heights (in the Charles Vance adaptation) directed by Alastair Duff.

The symbolic and atmospheric set has been devised by director Alastair Duff who has long been fascinated by the power and haunting beauty of Emily Bronte’s unforgettable novel.

The brooding anti-hero Heathcliff is played by Wesley Figaji; Julie Summers is the wayward, spoilt Catherine Earnshaw, the object of Heathcliff’s obsessive love. The challenging role of the younger Cathy has been given to the talented Cat Simmons, who is currently studying the novel as a matric setwork at Redham School.

Whereas the movie version of “Wuthering Heights” starring the young Laurence Olivier compressed the timespan of the novel, this stage version follows the story more exactly. The power and haunting beauty of the novel are faithfully captured.

As “Wuthering Heights” is a school setwork, special rates are offered for block bookings.

Performances:
Friday 12, Saturday 13, Thursday 18, Friday 19 and Saturday 20 May.
Week-nights at 20:15; Saturdays at 14:15 and 18:15.
