Shocking news on the Haworth Village website!

Due to an oversight by computer programmers responsible for Car Satellite Navigation systems who accidentally mis-spelt Haworth as Howorth, it has been agreed that all the traffic signs in the area are to be changed to Howorth. Work has already started and should be completed over the next few days. Pictured is the recent sign change on Brow moor.

The name Haworth will remain when referring to the location, but if giving directions then Howorth is to be used. The problem occurred 5 years ago when the Dutch company Meer Van Hoot, in charge of programming Sat Nav systems, programmed all the place names, unfortunately making the spelling error.

The problem has recently come to light as more people buying car satellite systems have discovered that if they enter the word Haworth they are only given a similar word option; Roger Van De Meer said "In Car Satellite Navigation systems have seen a massive rise in sales and if Haworth is to stay as a tourist place than it has to change its name. We received a complaint from a family in Germany who wanted to visit Haworth. They drove from Essen in Germany and only realised the mistake when they were in Portugal. They had entered the word Haworth which the word bank replaced with the nearest option, Hadorn, a small village in the Tyrol mountains, the problem was further exacerbated as it is twinned with Bronte in Italy.

Of course they can also opt for Hayworth, Howarth, Howard... or even Hogwarts!

(If you're shocked - have you turned the page on your calendar yet? :P)
