The Telegraph publishes today an interview with Toby Stephens where it is confirmed that he will play Mr. Rochester in the upcoming new Jane Eyre BBC version, as we published previously. Regrettably, the interview spins around an even more melodramatic piece of television, a two-part ITV drama, The Best Man. So, we don't have really new information, just a reassurance.

Stephens, son of Dame Maggie Smith and the late Sir Robert Stephens, has indulged his facial hair to play Rochester in a forthcoming BBC adaptation of Jane Eyre. (...)

While he admits that his upper-class image works both ways - helping with roles like Mr Rochester - the class thing rankles. Particularly, he says, when he sees actors who went to far smarter schools than Seaford pretend they're working-class.

By the way, in the article we have noticed that Mr. Stephens has a brother that is also an actor, Chris Larkin. The funny thing is that he appears in the credits of the Zeffirelli's version of Jane Eyre. He plays Frederick Lynn but if you don't remember him... it's quite normal:

I have viewed Jane Eyre three seperate times now, each time looking for Chris, and I have yet to find him, even with the handy, "cast in order of appearance" listing at the film's end. He's supposed to come on just after Elle MacPherson, but...no Chris. If you manage to find him, please do let me know.
