Two newspapers today have passing references to Jane Eyre related places.

The Chicago Suntimes has an article on Austen / Pride & Prejudice related journeys. The new film looks more and more like a hybrid when we read curious coincidences like this:

Remember the windswept cliff where Lizzie looks out over rocky peaks, purple heather and sheep pastures? This is Stanage Edge, in the Peak District National Park, popular with hang gliders and rock climbers. Incidentally, North Lees Hall, whose lonely tower inspired Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, is visible far below the cliff.

Similarly, The Observer on the other side of the pond carries an article on tourism at the Peak District, recently boosted for its film connections:

It is a dramatically beautiful place and has always attracted visitors. But their numbers have increased recently since it provided the setting for several British films including Jane Eyre, Elizabeth, and this year's highly praised adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen is believed to have based Mr Darcy's estate, Pemberley, and the nearby fictional village of Lambton on Chatsworth House and its market village Bakewell.

For more information on places related to Jane Eyre - both the film and the novel - visit this section of the Brontë Sisters Links website. Just like Charlotte in her time, you'll be wishing for wings in not time at all!
