Welcome to yet another edition of "(Not so cheap) Presents for Brontë-lovers". Froogling we have come across the following items:

If the receiver of the gift is a fan of Charlotte's then we suggest you look into this autograph envelope unsigned but certified buy her very own husband, A.B. Nicholls. These are the details:

Envelope Panel, unsigned, but six words in Brontë's handwriting, 1p, 4x2«. Addressed by Brontë to: "Mrs Jas Ahed/Linen-Draper/Keighley". Affixed to a 4x5 sheet upon which was written by Brontë's husband 137 years ago: "The Autograph of/Charlotte Brontë/A: B: Nicholls/Nile House/Banagher/Ireland/Mar. 25th-1865". The 4x5 sheet has been affixed to a 5¬x7 card. (...) The signature of Charlotte Brontë is a rarity, and anything in her handwriting is extremely desirable. Envelope panel shows crease at upper right corner and ink stain at upper left corner. Show through of the top edge of Nicholls' note touches "Keighley" on envelope panel. ¾x«-inch light glue stain at blank left edge of Nicholls' note. Overall, fine condition. Price: $2,999.00 (USD).

If you want something more literary, then you may always purchase either an English first edition of Shirley (picture here) for a mere $1750.00 (USD).

If the receiver admires Emily best the you have the chance of presenting them with the first American edition of Wuthering Heights for - um, well - $10000.00 (USD).

Unfortunately, we have been unable to find anything by Anne or Branwell in this price range.

If you tend to forget who is it that the receiver prefers - don't worry. You can avoid making a fool of yourself by giving them the first American edition of the Poems (or Rhymes as Emily would call them) for just $1,500.00 (USD).

Do you have your credit card handy, then?

  1. That's nice. You remind me that I ought to return to Haworth, it's only about an hour away from me, and it's a very nice village. I don't think I've been in 4 or 5 years! (I think I remember where to park the car...)
