The
Windsor Theatre Guild presents from 15 November to 19 November a production of
"After Mrs. Rochester", at the
Windsor Arts Center, Windsor, Berkshire, UK.
"After Mrs. Rochester" is the previous play of Polly Teale, the author of the currently on stage in London
"Brontë" (played by the same company,
Shared Experience, that in 2003 performed "After Mrs. Rochester" in London).
Performed by Windsor Theatre Guild. 'After Mrs Rochester’, written by Polly Teale and winner of the Time Out Best Play Award 2003, traces the eventful life of novelist Jean Rhys from her childhood in the West Indies to her time as a recluse in Devon. Struggling to overcome writer's block, her lifelong obsession with 'Jane Eyre' - particularly with the character of the mad Bertha Rochester - leads her to write her 1966 masterpiece 'Wide Sargasso Sea', the prequel to Charlotte Brontë's great novel. Directed by Mavis Froud. "Theatre doesn't come much more exciting than this." Daily Telegraph. "Remarkable and exhilarating....astounding." Sunday Telegraph.
