For those who like to keep track of novels where the Brontës are mentioned - sometimes in passing, sometimes in more depth - The Guardian has an article on the soon-to-be-awarded Booker Prize where they mention that Paul Auster's forthcoming book The Brooklyn Follies features

an engaging character who is obsessed by the actuarial tables of classic fiction: Emily and Charlotte Bronte dead at 30 and 39; Nathanael West gone at 37; Flannery O'Connor gone at 39; Stephen Crane at 28; Edgar Allen Poe and Kafka at just 40.

(Among many others who The Guardian goes on to enumerate on their creativity-is-young list).

Apologies to those who would have liked to be surprised ;)
