Leeds today carries an article on how the high number of cars arriving in Haworth is making it difficult for the village to cope. They have hired a group of consultants to evaluate the situation and see if they can reach any solution.

Richard Armitage has already spent time in Haworth over the August Bank Holiday weekend getting some feel for the pressures caused by excessive numbers of cars and coaches."He is very keen to develop a strategy which will maintain the economic vitality of Haworth by making travel to and from the area more sustainable.

Apparently they are following on the Brontë Society's footsteps, who cut up on number of visitors at the Parsonage a few years ago when the too many comings and goings started damaging the building.

That could mean measures to reduce the numbers of visitors and to increase the spend and stay of those who do come.

As a result of the traffic, for instance, the precious historical cobble stones on Main Streets are getting ripped because of the amount of traffic going up and down. This could eventually lead to a change that will kill part of the attraction.

At BrontëBlog we encourage any potential visitors to actually reach the place by public transport. There's no more exhilarating experience than the exhausting, not-for-the-faint-at-heart climb up the steep Main Street, soaking up the scenery and atmosphere and picturing what it was like a couple of hundred years ago.
