On the 206th anniversary of Emily Brontë's birth, join the Brontë Society's celebration on their
Facebook Wall:
Today we celebrate the birthday of Emily Jane Brontë, born 30 July 1818. When they were teenagers, Emily and her younger sister, Anne, began writing diary papers together (and later, separately), and they eventually established the practice that these papers should be written every four years, on Emily's birthday, and stored away, to be read four years later.
The Keighley Local History Society presents a talk about the whodunit writer Austin Lee:
Keighley Civic Center
August 13, 20:15
Several speakers will contribute, including author and journalist Sharon Wright, Brontë Parsonage Museum curator Ann Dinsdale and history society committee member Tim Neal.
Ann says: "When I first read Austin Lee’s Miss Hogg and the Brontë Murders, I was intrigued by the author’s knowledge of the Haworth area.
"This, combined with the book’s 'Golden Age' atmosphere, led me to read all the Miss Hogg books. I then set about learning more about Austin Lee’s colourful and unconventional life." (Alistair Shand)
TMWHDE is still on the news: Ross-shire Journal (Cromarty), Donegal Live (Donegal), Augusta-Margaret River Mail (Busselton)... WGBH lists adaptations of 'controversial' books, including Wide Sargasso Sea.
