2024
This dissertation is a research on how some women throughout history have been displaced not only from their country and roots, but also from themselves. As a search for identity and fighting the otherness, this dissertation uses Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, and its prequel, Wide Sargasso Sea written by Jean Rhys years later, in order to explore and identify the causes of the discrimination the protagonists of these well known texts go through. Furthermore, this document shows an investigation on the reasons for the Otherness they face not only in cultural aspects, but also in relation to ethnicity and gender.
