Introduction at 6.50 pm, foyer 2nd tier
Young Jane lives through an unhappy childhood. Despite adverse conditions in a boarding school for orphan girls, the heroine takes the initiative as a young adult and builds a career as a teacher. Her search for freedom and independence leads Jane to Thornfield Hall as a governess, where she has a fateful encounter with the darkly mysterious Edward Rochester. British choreographer and Director of Ballett Zürich, Cathy Marston, has created a fascinating fusion of literature and dance with "Jane Eyre". The ballet, based on the classic English novel by Charlotte Brontë, focuses on an unconventional woman who fights for her own place in life against all odds
and social injustices. First premiered by the English Northern Ballet in 2016, Cathy Marston's highly acclaimed choreography celebrated its German premiere with the Hamburg Ballet in December 2023.
