On Friday September 25, we are proud to present a special presentation of "Charlotte Brontë: To Do More and Better Things" featuring historical interpreter and History At Play, LLC Troupe Member, Laura Rocklyn.
The year is 1853 and Charlotte has just published "Villette," her third and most personal novel. This leads her to reflect on her extraordinary family, her unconventional education, and the life-changing experience in Brussels that she has revisited in her work on this latest novel. She speaks about the circumstances which prevented her maintaining her secret identity as an authoress, as she had wished, and considers both the difficulties and unexpected opportunities that her increasing fame has caused.
Charlotte shares the hardships faced by single women attempting to make a living and, possibly, even a name for themselves, and how she and her remarkable sisters strove to rise above these barriers.
