The Telegraph and Argus and
BBC News report on the latest news concerning the plans for a giant windfarm at the heart of Brontë country.
Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore is concerned by Calder Wind Farm Ltd’s proposals for a 65-turbine wind farm on more than 2,300 hectares of land at Walshaw Moor, above Hebden Bridge.
Calder Wind Farm Ltd say the windfarm could be England’s biggest if it progresses – and have submitted a scoping report to Calderdale Council to help identify significant likely effects, which would need to be fully assessed as part of a future planning application.
Conservative MP Mr Moore has set up a cross-party group of MPs for those also worried by the proposals, calling for a “united voice” against the controversial proposals.
He warns it will have “huge negative impacts” across the region if the proposals are progressed.
Mr Moore has written to regional MPs Josh Fenton-Glynn MP (Labour, Calder Valley), Kate Dearden MP (Labour, Halifax), Oliver Ryan MP (Labour, Burnley), Jonathan Hinder MP (Labour, Pendle and Clitheroe), and Sir Julian Smith MP (Conservative, Skipton and Ripon), inviting them to join a cross-party caucus to “provide a united voice in Parliament against the development.”
In his letter to the MPs, Mr Moore outlined concerns, including the disruption of protected peatland which acts as a natural carbon store and flood defence, the threat to endangered bird species, issues around transportation of materials to the site, and potential damage to Brontë Country’s cultural heritage.
