HERRMANN
Suite on Wuthering Heights for soprano, baritone and orchestra

Emily Brontë, celebrated today for her one and only novel, Wuthering Heights, was an accomplished pianist herself, having even transcribed Beethoven’s symphonies for piano. It is no surprise that the emotional intensity and Byronic sensibilities of her work found parallels in Beethoven’s music, and likewise in the music of the “Beethoven of film music”, Bernard Herrmann.

British soprano Keri Fuge and baritone Roderick Williams join the SSO in a suite on Herrmann’s only opera, Wuthering Heights, in this unique programme connecting these great artists together. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.
