A great initiative to help the Brontë Parsonage in these trying times, and one that, furthermore, is quite exciting. Dr Claire O'Callaghan (Emily Brontë Reappraised), Dr Sarah E. Fanning and Dr Emily Bell (great Brontë name, by the way) are putting together a virtual conference in support of the Brontë Parsonage Museum:
Brontë2020
Friday 4th September 2020

“There was no possibility of visiting the Parsonage that day. So, Reader, we met on Zoom.”

2020 was meant to be the final year in the bicentenary celebrations dedicated to the much loved Brontë family, a crowning culmination to a five-year programme led by the Brontë Parsonage Museum and the Brontë Society. Unfortunately, not only have the planned celebrations for Anne2020 been postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19 but the Brontë Parsonage has been significantly impacted by the global pandemic. The Museum has been closed since March, many of the wonderful staff have been furloughed, and plans for emergency funding have had to be put in place. For fans and scholars world-wide this means one thing: the Brontë’s family home and a cherished literary institution is at risk.

To support to the Parsonage, and to bring together Brontë scholars and enthusiasts, Brontë2020, a virtual one-day event, will take place on Friday 4th September via Zoom. We call on scholars, researchers, authors, artists, fans and enthusiasts to join us in putting together a vibrant programme and to present as part of the day. This event has been initiated independently of the Brontë Parsonage Museum but is run with their support. All proceeds will go directly to the Brontë Parsonage Museum’s Covid-19 Appeal.

If you wish to ask any questions about the conference event, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the organisers, Claire and Sarah, via our conference email: Bronte2020conference@gmail.com.
