Heroines and villainesses

25 Years Later explores 'Female Villains in Sci-Fi', looking back well into their origins.

Soon, however, women writers claimed a space for female villains in thrillers and horror, resulting in chilling characters along the lines of Mrs. Danvers in Daphne Du Maurier’s Rebecca, or Bertha Mason in Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre. They are women who go beyond the “femme fatale” stereotype, and their descent into madness raised issues of class, gender, and race. (Alex Jiménez Nimmo)

In mattinata oggi, nella Biblioteca di Monfalcone, i primi appuntamenti erano dedicati ai lettori più giovani: molte classi delle scuole cittadine hanno preso parte all’incontro con la scrittrice Beatrice Masini: nella conversazione condotta da Valentina Gasparet sono sfilati i ritratti di tante eroine letterarie, da Emma Bovary a Jane Eyre, Anna Karenina e Pippi Calzelunghe, fino alle modernissime Matilde di Roald Dahl o Mina di David Almond. Tante figure di donna che hanno in comune la voglia di uscire dagli schemi della società, sono proprio “Le amiche che vorresti” raccontate da Beatrice Masini nel recentissimo libro edito Giunti, scritto a quattro mani con Fabian Negrin. Eine ganz wichtige Rolle spielen für sie außerdem Frauen in der Literatur. Moraya schreibt kurzerhand so manches Romanende um, „so dass es mit einigen der weiblichen Figuren, die in der Originalversion scheitern mussten, in meiner Vision ein gutes Ende nahm.
