Central Library & Archives
Square Road
Halifax

Exploring the Brontes is a multi-disciplinary event celebrating the literary legacy of the Brontes, with poetry and prose by and about the Brontës delivered by Simon Zonenblick, and a performance of The Cold Plunge, a monologue by Caroline Lamb, addressing themes of aspiration and social values from the perspective of Brontë friend Mary Taylor.
Simon's film about Branwell Brontë was screened at the Brontë Parsonage and in Calderdale Libraries for Branwell's bicentenary in June, and his presentation will focus largely on the significance of Halifax in the lives and writings of the Brontës.
Caroline runs theatre company Dangerous to Know, who in 2015 produced her play The Dissolution of Percy, about Branwell, and are working on the first ever stage production of Charlotte Brontë's Shirley. Caroline has played Emily Brontë and Jane Eyre, and her writing brings history to the stage, lending the past a contemporary voice.
This appearance follows ETB's successful shows at the Morley Arts Festival 2016, and Todmorden Library in 2017.
