Wide Sargasso Sea: Jean Rhys, Jane Eyre and the Making of an Author’
Until January, 8 2017
2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea and the bi-centenary of Charlotte Brontë, author of Jane Eyre, the influential Victorian novel out of which Rhys wrote Wide Sargasso Sea as both a prequel and a contemporary response. This exhibition explores the making of these two classic works of literature and the dynamics of literary celebrity past and present.
