Friends: Charlotte Brontë - 200th Anniversry With Susannah Fullerton
Friday, 1 April 2016 - 11:00am
Metcalfe Auditorium
State Library NSW
Sydney
Friends lecture series When Charlotte Brontë wrote to author Robert Southey asking for advice about becoming a writer, he told her that literature should not be the business of a woman's life. Fortunately she ignored that advice and produced four novels, as well as the juvenile tales of her childhood, and poems. As a result she found fame, notoriety and many friends in the literary world. April 2016 is her 200th birthday. Celebrate it by learning more about the life and works of this remarkable woman. Susannah Fullerton, founding member of the Australian Brontë Association and President of the Jane Austen Society of Australia, tells Charlotte's story and discusses the wonderful novels she gave the world. Bookings essential.
