Suspense and Singing

1. At the Bath Literature Festival:

Novelist and founder of The Pool, Sam Baker’s novel The Woman Who Ran is inspired by Anne Brontë’s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Susie Steiner’s Missing, Presumed is a tense, acutely observed thriller about a vanished post-graduate student. Here they discuss with Stephanie Merritt how literary writers inject the pace and suspense of crime fiction into their work.

Vincent Bijlo & The Rossettis
Op woeste hoogte

The Rossettis is de band rond zangeres Mariska Reijmerink, die Engelse poëzie op muziek zet. De band bestaat verder uit Jan-Peter Bast op piano, Arthur Brenkman op drums en percussie en Sophie de Rijk op viool.
In 2016 gaan zij samen theatermaker Vincent Bijlo een muziektheatervoorstelling over Emily en Charlotte Brontë maken, getiteld Op Woeste Hoogte.
Charlotte, Emily, Anne en enige zoon Branwell overleden allemaal jong. Charlotte is beroemd geworden met haar roman Jane Eyre, Anne met Agnes Grey en Emily met haar onvergetelijke liefdesgeschiedenis van Cathy en Heathcliff in Wuthering Hights. Zoon Branwell probeerde het als portretschilder, huisleraar en dichter, maar mislukte eigenlijk in alles.
In Op Woeste Hoogte nemen Vincent Bijlo en The Rossettis het publiek mee naar het ruige Noord-Engeland van de 19de eeuw in een meeslepend verhaal over de drie wereldberoemde schrijfsters Brontë  met prachtige muziek en zang erdoor heengeweven.
