This tweet by Tracy Chevalier has alerted us to a really beautiful homage to the Brontës that will be displayed at the upcoming Brontë Parsonage exhibition: Charlotte Great and Small:
The piece is The Brontë Bed by Tamar Stone:
The Brontë Bed  © 2015-2016
Antique wood doll bed
10” (H) x 10 1/2” (W) x 15” (L)
Sham Pillowcase w/Pillow front
(vintage green jacquard fabric)
8” (W) x  4 1/2” (L)
Bedspread
(vintage green jacquard fabric)
24” (W) x 21” (L)
This small bed is my response to the daily lives Charlotte, Emily, Anne and Branwell Brontë led in the Parsonage. The siblings – especially the sisters – shared much of their domestic space, working together in the kitchen, writing in the dining room, sleeping in the same bedrooms and sometimes beds. The quotes embroidered on the bed and bed clothes are taken from their letters, diary entries, poems and novels.
This piece is part of the Brontë Parsonage Museum’s 200th Birthday Celebrations, starting with Charlotte Brontë’s birthday in 2016. You can read more about the exhibition, “Charlotte Great and Small” and the Brontë’s bicentenary year at their website.
