A message from Imelda and David Marsden, life members of the Brontë Society:
This September 2013, the Kirklees Bronte Group and Brontë friends are to run a North Kirklees Literary Festival. The first one in the area to be held: Aspects of Literature.

With a Literary dinner on Friday 20th September to be held at Healds Hall Hotel, Liversedge, to raise funds for Holly Bank School in Mirfield (formerly Roe Head school where the Brontë Sisters attended). The Holly Bank School is a residence for young people with multi disabilities where they are educated and cared for by caring staff.

Then on the Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of September there will be talks at Red House Museum in Gomersal to raise funds for the museum. This is where Charlotte Brontë visited and stayed with her school friend Mary Taylor. Speakers and prices will be announced at a later date.

The Brontë Society and Brontëblog helped in saving the Red House museum from being sold due to Kirklees Council cut backs, but we are to keep a close eye. One can purchase a year visitor ticket for the family, which I have done for the year at Red house museum at Gomersal combined with Oakwell Hall at Birstall and which is well worth it. Try to put forwards a friends group the better to have a year visitor card. Then we from the Bronte group will put on events and raise funds for the Museum.

  1. Surely it would be of more use to raise funds for the Bronte Society-particularly from 'life members', which incidentally were discontinued at least 10 years ago!

I think it's a brilliant idea. We don't have enough stuff like this going on in North Kirklees.
