We republish again the events taking place this weekend in Haworth as a part of the Brontë Society AGM 2012:
Friday June 8, 2:00 PM
Dickens biographer Professor Michael Slater will discuss Charles Dickens and the Brontës. The event takes place as part of the 2012 Dickens bicentenary celebrations and is on the eve of the anniversary of Dickens' death. Tea and biscuits to follow. The Baptist Centre, West Lane.
5:00 PM
Donor's Event: Wine & Nibbles on the Parsonage lawn, or if wet in the foyer after a tour of the BPM - by invitation only.
7:00 PM
Gillian Stapleton, costume historian, presents Elegant Economy - a look at fashion around the 1830s. The Baptist Centre, West Lane.
Saturday June 9, 11:15 AM
Annual Service of Remembrance at the Parish Church of St Michael & All Angels, Haworth. The service will be conducted by The Reverend Peter Mayo-Smith, Rector of Haworth, who will also give the address entitled The Marriage of Patrick and Maria and Patrick's Faith, this being the bicentenary of their wedding.
2:00 PM
The Annual Lecture will be given by Lord Hattersley: Political Biographies: A Health Warning. The Baptist Centre, West Lane. Please note: The lecture is free of charge but is likely to be very popular and as numbers are limited you will need to reserve a place.
4.30 PM
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE BRONTË SOCIETY:
Society Members only. Membership cards will be required.
The Baptist Centre, West Lane.
8:00 PM
Following the screening of the documentary A Regular Black: The Hidden Wuthering Heights, our President Bonnie Greer, playwright, author and critic, Terry Eagleton, regarded as one of Britain's most influential literary critics, and Caryl Phillips, novelist, playwright and Professor of Literature at Princeton University, will tease out some of its themes. The evening will offer a fascinating new reading of the novel, and the audience will be invited to join in the debate. The Baptist Centre, West Lane.

Sunday June 10,  9:30 AM
A chance to look around the Brontë Parsonage Museum before the official opening time. Membership cards will be required. Angela Crow will be in the foyer to sign her new biography Mrs Brontë.
11:00 AM Walk No 1
Margaret Berry will lead a walk over the moors to Oxenhope following the route taken by Arthur Bell Nicholls on his wedding day. The walk will last about 2 hrs and appropriate footwear and waterproof coat are recommended. Leave from Museum car park. Return to Haworth in time for lunch.
1:00 PM Walk No 2 / Walk No 3
Judith Bland will lead a walk around historical Haworth. Leave from Museum shop.
Ian Dewhirst will lead a walk around the graveyards of Haworth. Leave from opposite Schoolroom
in Church Street.
3:00 PM
Tea and biscuits at the home of Ruth Battye, No.21 South View, Haworth, OR a trip to St Oswalds Church, Guiseley to view the marriage certificate of Patrick & Maria Brontë. Depart for trip outside The Baptist Centre, West Lane.
6:00 PM
An informal evening of friendship, fun and food at The Old White Lion, Haworth. There will be a sheet for ordering meals in advance, available throughout Friday and Saturday, but we need final numbers by the end of Saturday and so the list will close after the Saturday evening event. Bring along any items for which you no longer have any use and we will auction them during the evening, proceeds to The Brontë Society. Small items, books, pictures, anything you think may be of interest to someone else. Join in the fun - don't take it too seriously - it's not The Antiques Roadshow

Monday June 11, 9.00AM
EXCURSION TO HADDON HALL, DERBYSHIRE, the setting of Thornfield in the latest Jane Eyre film.
Depart from The Baptist Centre, West Lane.
There is a restaurant on site, along with gift shop, toilets and beautiful gardens. Haddon Hall is a Grade 1* listed building. It is built on a hillside above the valley of the River Wye. Because of the nature of the site there are many different levels both outside and within the house itself and so care and attention must be paid to the uneven surfaces and steps. We shall leave the Hall at around 3.30pm to visit nearby Bakewell where refreshments will be available.

Tuesday June 12, 9:00 AM
EXCURSION TO DEWSBURY MINSTER AND THE RED HOUSE
Depart from The Baptist Centre, West Lane. Dewsbury Minster (Patrick Brontë's first position in Yorkshire) for coffee, and then on to The Red House at Gomersal, the home of the Taylor family and frequently visited by Charlotte Brontë, who renamed the house Briarmains in her novel Shirley. We return to Haworth no later than 4.00pm. A meal can be purchased on the return journey.
