The series Let's Talk About It: Mad Women in the Attic kicks off at 6:30 p.m. March 20 at the Headquarters Library with "Jane Eyre," by Charlotte Brontë. (The Fayetteville Observer)


What happens to a woman whose behavior defies social and domestic expectations? Perhaps she is locked in an attic; more often she is a woman involved in a quest to discover her identity. These works may help us redefine "mad women."

Novelist Margot Livesey will discuss "The Flight of Gemma Hardy," a modern variation of "Jane Eyre" set in Scotland in the 1960s.
