A press release from the Brontë Parsonage Museum:
Jane Eyre Screenwriter and Producer visit Haworth to Talk About New Adaptation

A new film adaptation of Jane Eyre hits cinema screens this weekend, and to mark its release the Brontë Parsonage Museum will be hosting a very special evening event with the film’s screenwriter, Moira Buffini and producer, Alison Owen. The pair will visit Haworth on the evening of Saturday 17 September to discuss the film and how they adapted Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel for the screen. The event will take place at the West Lane Baptist Centre in Haworth, at 8pm.

The event forms part of the Brontë Festival of Women’s Writing, a weekend of readings, talks, workshops and family events dedicated to celebrating and showcasing women’s writing, taking place from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 September. The weekend features events with novelists Joanna Briscoe and Barbara Trapido, and writer Kate Walker, who has published a modern retelling of Wuthering Heights for Mills & Boon. There will also be poetry readings by local publishers Grey Hen Press and local poet Anne Caldwell will be creating a poetry trail in and around the Parsonage to encourage visitors to explore their own writing. Full programme details are included below.

There has been a great deal of interest in the new Jane Eyre film and during the build up to the release the Brontë Parsonage Museum has had a busy week filming interviews with broadcasters including BBC Look North and BBC Breakfast. Last Friday, the museum hosted a preview screening of the new film for a specially invited audience – including the film’s Hollywood director, Cary Fukunaga, who made a guest appearance to introduce the screening.
“It’s fantastic that Moira Buffini and Alison Owen will be visiting Haworth to tell local audiences more about how they brought Jane Eyre to the screen – there is always a lot of interest in what goes on ‘behind the scenes’ and they will reveal some fascinating insights into the making of the film”. (Jenna Holmes, Arts Officer, Brontë Parsonage Museum.)
The festival will take place thanks to grant funding from Arts Council England and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, and is sponsored by Holiday Inn Express Bradford City Centre.

Events will take place at various locations in Haworth, and tickets can be booked from the museum: jenna.holmes@bronte.org.uk / 01535 640188.
