Today, June 7, marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Patrick Brontë.
For a perpetual curate in a 'remote' Yorkshire village, he seems in retrospective to have led quite a life: he was born in Ireland, went to Cambridge, met interesting people there, lived in several parts of England, fathered a remarkable, unforgettable family, encouraged his daughters to get as good an education as possible, travelled to Belgium, defended several social causes, oblivious of where that put him socially in his parish and was, all in all, a very brave man, if somewhat difficult at times. But we do think that his good actions considerably outweigh his 'bad' decisions.
Anyone wanting to find out more about his interesting life, should try and visit the current temporary exhibition in his honour at the
Brontë Parsonage Museum - quite a treat and quite a celebration of his life.
