Q: Your next release, in March, will be "Jane Eyre," the latest example of a hot young indie director (Cary Fukunaga) taking on what looks like a very mainstream project. What was it like working with him?And this is what he says to The Toronto Star:
A: Cary's great. I saw his first film, "Sin Nombre," which is a fantastic achievement especially for a first feature, so obviously he's a great visionary. Period drama is not at the top of the list of something I wanted to do, but I was immediately intrigued when I heard his take.
Q: How would you describe that?
A: Period dramas, we kind of know what it looks like, what it sounds like. It's all very stiff, and they can make a conversation about matchbooks sound intellectual. But I didn't understand what it feels like, and that's what we worked hard to capture. (Kerry Lengel)
“What is it about this version is the director made Sin Nombre and this one is Gothic and dark. Jane is an abused character but is not a victim; she’s trying to find social standing,” said Bell. (Linda Barnard)Oh, and readers from Dallas may be interested in stopping by Gordon and the Whale who is giving away a couple of tickets for a screening in Austin on March 17.
This Australian actress became 2010's new "it" girl, starring in 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'The Kids Are All Right.' Now she'll star in the upcoming adaptation of 'Jane Eyre.' Mia Wasikowska takes your questions here.
from the two clips i dare say that they got it wrong! Rochester speaks like a robot. St. John is not the handsome looking man he is supose to be. And besides all that, they aren't supose to get close to kiss in this scene. I think the screenwriter saw the version of 2006 too many times and adapted that instead of the book.
ReplyDeleteSweet! Thanks, wonderful people at BrontëBlog! :D
ReplyDeleteI agree about St John, but each to their own I guess. The first clip does bother me. Jane's too fawning and you just want to yell "OH FFS JUST KISS HER ALREADY!" - I think it was better done in '06. There is definite steam coming off them in the book in that scene, but here, it's a bit ... meh. :/ Maybe when it's put into context with the rest of the film it'll be better.

ReplyDeleteI love the Jane/Rochester clip. Perfect from where I'm sitting; just how I imagined it from the book scene. Guess everyone has their own notions of how the performances should go, but so far I have zero problems with the way Fassbender and Mia are playing the characters. Nuance and feeling in both.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, there is a third clip - the proposal scene - up at http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/janeeyre/. I haven't been able to watch it yet as I'm at work with no Quicktime, but thought I'd mention it. :]
