The Carlsbad Senior Center is happy to announce that a new Book Club will begin meeting at the Carlsbad Senior Center starting Sept. 13, 2010. Our first selection will be Wuthering Heights, a wonderful classic by Emily Brontë. Please come prepared to discuss Wuthering Heights and to share your thoughts about future book selections. Kathy Ragland, a retired Carlsbad city reference librarian who has conducted book club discussions at the Cole Library, will be the group leader. (San Diego Union-Leader)
Art in Brontë CountryCheck schedule here.
Friends trip led by Professor Ann Sumner, Director of the Barber Institute.
14 – 18 September 2010
Following the very successful Art in the Lake District tour last September, the Director has agreed to join us this year as we explore the delightful art collections of West Yorkshire. The trip will include a visit to the Brontë Museum at Howarth (sic!) , home to the talented authors and a chance to see amateur art works by Charlotte Brontë (including her sketch of St Martins’ Parsonage in Birmingham).
East Riddleston Hall (National Trust) recently used as a backdrop for a TV adaptation of Wuthering Heights and today famous for the needlework collections and cherry gardens. The trip will include a visit to the superb collections at Cartwright Hall (Vasari, Reynolds, Gainsborough, Rossetti, Clawsen and Edwin Hay); the National Museum of Film and Photography; the David Hockney Gallery at Saltaire; Bolton Abbey; the Yorkshire Sculpture Park; Nostell Priory as well as a short walk in Ilkley Moor to view the White Well.
